MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER SMELLING PLACE

My Business Story

My Business Story

I come from a family of entrepreneurs. In the Dominican Republic, many families have their own businesses due to the lack of employment. My grandfather, Ramon Julio Horton, created a business empire that has been very successful throughout the years. When I was a young boy, I remember going every Saturday to my family businesses to “HELP OUT” (lol). I used to help at the retail spaces we had back then. My grandfather had a business called “Repuesto San Ramon” where we sold parts of vehicles and different car accessories and “Garage San Ramon” where the entire neighborhood was able to store their vehicles.

My father Ramon Emilio Horton, started his own business when he was about 35 years old. He created a business called “Moto-Bici San Ramon” where we sold parts of motorcycles and accessories. Those were my wonder years! I was excited to come up there every Saturday! I loved eating sugar cane, fresh coconut water, fresh fruits, sweets, etc. I also learned a lot from my grandfather. He is dedicated, brave, and its a business savvy. My father loves his freedom and treats his customers like family. I’m a combination of the two. I love my customers, my freedom and everything I'm creating. Makes me happy to see their ear-to-ear smile when they find the right scent. Its priceless!

(Family business: Two story park garage, Retail locations, apartments and condominiums for rent, etc.)

I started my own business when I was 9 years old. I was in 4th grade. I used to make photocopies of blank coloring books and I used to sell them to all the students that didn’t own a coloring book. I saw the business need and I created the product. At the age of 12, I started a second business. With the help of my grandmother America Fernandez aka Meca, I started a successful ice cream business. It was all natural and made from scratch. It was a lucrative business, but my father asked me to stop the business. I was probably getting distracted in school.

(my grand-parents)

I started my 3rd business back in 2015, with the intention of creating a new life for myself and my family. I noticed that people always loved what I was wearing (clothes, colognes, shoes, bracelets, etc.. anything lol). So, I decided to start selling bracelets at work and people were buying everything I brought to the office. I decided to establish the company and started creating my brand “You Me & Emilio”. My ultimate goal with my brand is to make people happy. We need more love in this world and every little drop of Soy wax will help. We create products based on people’s needs and products that will enhance your life experience.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

The struggles are real and a lot of patience is needed, but you have to go through those struggles in order to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Self-employment is a key component to your FREEDOM. Like any other entrepreneur, I have had some challenges along the way with business cash flow, marketing ideas, and market penetration. But again, these are your opportunities to make a great business.

I’m proud of creating such a great brand and concept. We’re here to make Dallas and the world, a better place!
